Message low. Think more like 500k ohms. The knock sensor is basically a crystal element that when vibrated generates a small voltage. The right vibration (ping) creates a signal the ECU recognizes so it can take action.

The sensor is grounded through its mounting bolt — so only 1 wire on harness plug (sensor side) gets tested — ground your meters other resistance test lead to body ground (or negative terminal of battery).

FYI - the reason the resistor trick works, the knock connector harness on ECU side of things is a two wire connector with 1 wire being ground.
